Insight into Worship - Tithes & Offerings

Bring the Tithe

Bringing tithes and offerings to the Lord should be an act of pure worship.  Any other motive would be unworthy of our King.  We should want to tithe and our tithing should be connected in our hearts to all that Jesus is and has done.  He is great and has loved us so- what else can we do but acknowledge that and praise Him with our earthy goods.  We see the connection between our God and our hearts and our earthy possessions in numerous passages of Scripture.  “Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord your God which He has given you.” (Dt. 16:17)  “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; bring an offering, and come before Him; worship the Lord in holy array.” (I Chr. 16: 29)  “Honor the Lord from your wealth, and from the first of all your produce; so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine.”  (Pro. 3: 9, 10)  Continuing in the spirit of worship, once the tithes and offerings have been collected, they are brought to the front of the church and a short prayer of thanksgiving and dedication is given.  In so doing, we acknowledge the source of our blessings and our ability to praise God.  May our giving always be motivated by hearts overwhelmed with gratitude for our Savior!
